We’ve all heard the phrase “New Year-New Me,” but how often do we really change for the better?

It is evident that everyone wants to live happier, but sometimes it is hard to battle out stress from work, anxiety issues, or everyday problems that can ruin your day. Living happier can bring you a lot of health benefits in your life, which is why it is essential. It is proven that smiling reduces stress, and you cannot really smile unless you are happy.

That is why we decided that in this article, we will cover some things that you must do in order to become a happier person this year.

  1. Follow a sleeping schedule

If you are not getting enough sleep, it is hard for you to remain happy all day long. The lack of energy will worsen your mood and make you less productive throughout the day. When you are less productive, you start to get anxious.

That is why it is important to get enough hours of sleep and reevaluate your sleeping schedule. You can start by setting a sleep reminder that will be set on your phone or smartwatch reminding you when you should get to bed in order to get the right hours of sleep. A good night's sleep will improve your memory, reduce anxiety, make you happier, as well as prevent chronic illnesses.

  1. Conquer fears

As the article stated, it is time to make a change this year. Conquering fears one by one will remove the anxiety that is holding you back. There are a lot of things that we simply do not want to do just because we are too afraid of failure. Most of the time it is better to face those problems and be a changed person. Sometimes, happiness is right outside of our doorstep, but it is guarded by our anxieties. Conquering one by one is the best way to feel positive about yourself.

  1. Spend at least 10 minutes a day outside

Going for a walk, lunch break, coffee, or exercise outside is one of the best methods to remain happy. It does not have to be for an extended period of time if you are too busy; 10 minutes of fresh air is excellent for keeping our mental and physical strength at the optimal level. Spending time in green spaces and people can lift your mood and relieve anxiety.

  1. Find something that you like and prioritize it

We often forget the purpose of our living. In these fast-moving times, we became like robots continually doing the same thing over and over again. The use of life is to enjoy it. That is why it is important to find one small self-care act that works best for you and do it. For example, if you like to watch a horse race, you should just book your ticket and go watch the Kentucky Derby.

By doing something that you like, you will rest your brain from all activities as well as improve your mood and happiness for the rest of the day.

  1. Compliment yourself

Feeling good about ourselves is the only way to feel happy. Sometimes it is good for our mental health to say positive things about yourself out loud. This will let you focus on positive things around you. You should also change your vocabulary and start introducing positive acts in your sentences. For example, instead of saying, ‘If I get a promotion,’ you can switch it up to, ‘When I get a promotion.’ Positive language can help you improve your mindset and look at the glass half full instead of half empty.

These are some of the ways you can become happier in 2020. Remember, it is always good to give up on some unhealthy habits and try living as healthy as possible. Keeping your body and mind healthy is the only way to remain happy all the time.
