You just finished running a few kilometers and instead of feeling refreshed and invigorated, you are just acutely aware of the severe pain coming from your feet. Why? Well, you might have opted for some bargain brand sneaker or just the wrong fit, resulting in severe damage to your feet and toes. You can help maintain good overall foot health with high quality shoes like asics and other brands. So, what are some of the key signs that your running shoes are destroying your feet?

Heel Pain

Do you have plantar fasciitis, commonly known as pain in your heel? This comes from wearing the wrong type of sneakers, especially during exercise. This type of injury can start out as a nuisance but result in long term pain to the point of severely restricting your running. What should you do? First, see your medical professional and discuss your pain with them. Talk about the shoes that you are currently wearing, your typical running routine, and ways that you have tried to help the pain. They will most likely follow up with an MRI and possibly physical therapy. Most importantly, be sure to ask your physician which types of sneakers you should be purchasing.

Stress Fractures

These might sound super scary, like you are running around with a broken foot, but surprisingly enough, stress fractures occur often. This is especially true if you have running shoes that do not provide enough cushion and support. This additional stress leads to pain and joint inflammation. Sometimes the lack of good quality support can lead to tiny bone fractures. This is why the low cost of a bargain basement sneaker can result in irreversible damage. Instead, purchase a high quality racing shoe that fits you well and provides more than adequate support.

Blisters and Uneven Wear

Yes, blisters are very common in sports. In fact, some athletes wear their blisters, calluses, and injuries with pride. However, continually getting blisters on your feet may indicate it is time to go shopping for new athletic wear. Another key sign is if there is uneven wear in your shoe. And any time you see holes, rips, cracks, and other structural issues with your shoes, you know that it is time to replace your foot ware.

The Right Shoe for Running

Not all shoes are created alike. Some shoes are absolutely perfect for running. They provide the right type of support for long distance running and the continual pressure that you put on your heels and feet as you run. They are designed for a variety of terrains and situations. The right type of running shoe is created for long term wear. The different components stay intact as you run, regardless of the number of kilometers you cover. Double check with your doctor if you are already experiencing foot pain. You may need additional support when looking for a new sneaker. Be sure that when you shop for your ideal running shoes that you look specifically for shoes designed for running and high impact exercise. You will be glad that you did!
