The Group 1 Doncaster Mile is Australia’s feature race over 1600m. The Doncaster Mile, also known as the Doncaster Handicap is run on Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick Racecourse.

The 2018 Doncaster Mile will be run on Saturday, April 7 and will offer a total prizepool of $3,000,000.

The inaugural running of The Doncaster Mile was run in 1866 and was won by Dundee. Famous winners of the race include Winx (2016), More Joyous (2012), Haradasun (2007), Sunline (1999 & 2002) and Super Impose (1990 & 1991).

The Doncaster Mile is one of four Group 1 races on Day 1 of The Championships at Randwick. The other feature races are the T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m), Australian Derby (2400m) and Inglis Sires’ (1400m).

The 2018 Doncaster Mile looks to be cracking edition with plenty of chances in early betting markets. Those looking for Doncaster Mile Tips can get the latest information in our preview of the race.

KEMENTARI

The three-year-old Colt rocketed into Doncaster Mile contention with a breathtaking victory first-up in the Group Three Eskimo Prince Stakes defeating Siege Of Quebec and Brave Song who both look like smart prospects. Kementari made them look second-rate, blowing away his rivals to win by three lengths. Kementari nearly won the Group One Caulfield Guineas in the Spring and looks to have come back a much more mature and better horse for his Autumn Campaign. He is a big chance in the Doncaster Mile.

HAPPY CLAPPER

With plenty of up and comers in the market, Happy Clapper is the proven galloper. The seven-year-old Gelding has over $3.5 Million in prizemoney and has finished runner-up in the last two Doncaster Miles, behind It’s Somewhat and Winx. He won the Group 1 Epsom in the Spring and also finished second in the Emirates Stakes and George Main Stakes. Proven Star and a major player.

ALIZEE

The three-year-old daughter of Sepoy claimed the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick during the Spring before heading to Melbourne where she ran below her best but still finished third in the Thousand Guineas. Alizee impressed in her barrier trial at Rosehill, where she finished second behind the flying machine Redzel and defeating Winx. She will be first-up in the Group Two Light Fingers and trainer James Cummings said: “I would expect her to be certainly nominated in the Doncaster, and at this stage, I would love to see that be her grand final this preparation, provided her performances in the lead-up warrant that sort of race." She is a Star in the making and a Group 1 Doncaster Mile victory would not surprise.

CARE TO THINK

In my opinion, Care To Think could be the most underrated horse in Australia. The four-year-old So You Think Gelding has won five consecutive races and still hasn’t had a race where everything goes his way. His last start victory in the Magic Millions Cup was brilliant. From gate 16, he was planted three-wide with no cover the entire trip. He still showed a dazzling turn of foot and sprinted away from a handy field that included Group 1 winner Lucky Hussler. He will only improve into the Autumn and the sky's the limit for Care To Think.
